Katrina Double Cottages have illustrious predecessors like the New Orleans Double-Barrel Shotgun pictured above. They may also be transported over the highway, but in two pieces.
Because they are often 24 feet wide or more, they are often indistinguishable from conventional cottages. This was the third Katrina Cottage type to be addressed after the storm. Initially, it was thought that people might want more of the smaller cottages, but as time has passed, it has become obvious that many people will rebuild with a larger house. So more effort has been spent in recent times on larger plans, or plans such as the Kernel Cottages that can grow easily into larger plans.
